"Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard"

“It’s too early to get up,” moaned Barney.
“Barney, you’re being ridiculous, it’s eleven in the morning, and it’s a Sunday,” said Robin.
“Twenty more minutes!” argued Barney. “Leave me alone!”
“I guess somebody doesn’t want blueberry pancakes,” said Robin, trying to persuade Barney to get out of bed.
“Fine, I’ll get up, but you have to make the pancakes. Oh and can you give me my book? I want to read more of it.” said Barney smiling. Robin quickly got the book and threw it on the ground as hard as she could.
“What was that for?” asked Barney shocked.
“Sorry, it was an accident,” said Robin smiling.
It was a Sunday morning and almost every Sunday was a boring Sunday Barney would often sleep in until past noon and only get up to use the restroom. This Sunday was different because at one in the afternoon Ted and Barney were going to the bar to have a couple of drinks. As they reached the bar Barney shouted, “Drinks on me!”
“Barney, you’re only saying that because we’re the only ones in here,” said Ted.
“It’s the thought that counts. Okay Ted,” replied Barney.
“Hey what are we even doing here?” asked Ted, “Lets go bungee jumping!”
“Let’s do it!” said Barney excitedly, “Invite Robin and Marshal.”
Ted called Robin and Marshal and asked them if they wanted to go bungee jumping. They said yes, and they all met at Lily’s Bungee Jumping.
“Are you guys sure you want to do this? I mean we’re falling straight down for 273 feet, hanging from a cord.” asked Marshal.
“Are you all ready?” asked Lily the manager.
“All ready,” said Marshal smiling.
“Who’s going first?” asked Lily.
“I will,” said Marshal, stepping up.
“Okay then. Put your legs through here and your arms through here,” said Lily handing Marshal a black jacket.
Marshal got on the edge of the bridge and jumped. Barney, Ted, and Robin all ran to see Marshal. As Marshal was falling down, it seemed as if the rope wasn’t stopping Marshal, and Marshal kept going down, until he hit his head on a sharp rock. Barney, Ted, Robin stayed watching Marshal, but he didn’t move at all.
“Oh my god!” shouted Ted as the three ran down the mountain to look at their friend.
“He’s… He’s dead!” yelled Barney as he fell to his knees.
Two weeks later, on the day of Marshal’s funeral, Barney realized something. He realized that he and Robin were both in their mid-30s and they still haven’t settled down yet. He thought to himself that he and Robin had been dating for just over four years, and he has yet to propose to her. He knew that it was only a matter of time before he or Robin past away, and he knew he had to propose. Barney decided that in three months, he would take Robin on a romantic date, and get on one knee there. In three months, Barney took Robin to the finest restaurant in New York and got on one knee. Barney said to her, "Robin, I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”
“Oh Barney,” said Robin falling back into her chair. “Barney I love you, but I don’t think I can marry you it’s your book, the BroCode. You may not notice this but that book is ruining our relationship. Every time we’re together that book is always there, whenever we’re going to go somewhere, that book interferes with everything, that book is your lifestyle. The BroCode is breaking us apart Barney. I hate to say this, but its either me or the book.”
“That book has been in my family for generations now, and there has never been a problem with it until now. I’m sorry Robin, but I vowed to my father never to throw that book out,” said Barney tearfully.
“Okay, bye Barney,” said Robin wiping away the tears from her face.
“Bye.” said Barney.
“I hope you find someone else Barney, someone better,” said Robin walking out of the restaurant.
Barney went home, and he knew he’d miss Robin more than anything in the world. For a whole week Barney stayed home and didn’t do anything but stay home and lay in bed watching television. He never once got out of his bed unless he wanted to use the restroom or eat. Usually if he was hungry he would just heat up a Hot Pocket and drink it down with a glass of icy cold water.
“Robin I’m really worried about Barney I haven’t seen him in a week and he won’t open the door, his neighbors told me he hasn’t left his apartment at all.” said Ted.
“I’m just so mad that he chose a book over me, we dated for four years and he still chose the book over me. Despite all that I still feel very bad for him, I want to see if he’s okay,” said Robin.
“Well I get out of work early tomorrow, Do you want to go check up on him?” asked Ted.
“Uhh, I don’t know Ted, I feel like if I go I might make it worse or it’ll feel awkward for us, sorry Ted.” said Robin.
“It’s okay, I completely understand you, I’ll go alone,” said Ted.
The next day at five in the afternoon Ted went to Barney’s house with Chinese food to see if Barney was okay.
As soon as he got there, and elderly woman went up to Ted and asked him, “Excuse me, do you know the young man that lives in there?”
“Uhh yes I do, why,” replied Ted.
“He got here last week on Saturday crying himself a river, and he has not come out of his apartment once, the other neighbors and I are really starting to worry, we want to see if he’s okay but he doesn’t open the door,” said the lady. Ted looked around to see if he could find a spare key that Barney had laying around, he lifted the mat, but he didn’t find anything. Until he looked into a pot where there was a big flower, and he found a key. Ted opened up the door and he walked in. The first thing he saw was broken glass, dishes, ripped pillows and lots of bottles of alchohol.
“Barney? Are you here? Are you okay?” asked Ted walking around the apartment. He walked into Barney’s room and he saw Barney in his favorite suit, fixing his tie and looking into the mirror.
“Barney? Are you okay?” asked Ted.
“Ted, I messed up, Robin is my life I love her more than anything in the world, and I’d do anything to win her back, even if it cost me to throw out the BroCode. I’m going to win her back and I need your help,” said Barney, with a very determined look on his face.
“Me? What do you want me to do? Well for starters I need you to burn the BroCode and never let me get a hold of that book ever, no matter what.” said Barney.
“Are you sure about this Barney? You vowed to your father never to throw that book out,” said Ted.
“I don’t care, here Ted,” said Barney giving Ted the BroCode “Get rid of it. There are some matches in the drawer in the kitchen.” Ted went to the kitchen with the BroCode and took the matches out of the drawer, walked outside, lit the match, and threw it on the BroCode. The book burned into ashes and both Barney and Ted knew it was gone.
“I got it all planned out, I’m going to put roses all over her house, I’m going to come out of the kitchen and propose, I’m going to tell her I got rid of the BroCode and confess my love to her. Here Ted take my credit card and buy 15 dozens of roses, 5 candles and get the place ready, she gets home at eight so you have to hurry, please Ted,” said Barney.
“I got it Barney, good luck, I hope you get her,” said Ted.
Ted went to the flower shop and bought 15 dozens of roses and 5 candles, he also bought a lighter to light up the candles. He got to Robin’s house at 7:30 and Barney was already there, they set up the place and were done by 7:55. Ted went to Robin’s and looked out the window to see when she got home and when he saw her, he yelled, “She’s here!”
Robin walked into the house and dropped her bag, Barney came out of the kitchen, grabbed Robin’s hand and said, “Robin, I am so sorry, I love you more than anything in the world and I want to let you know that I got rid of the BroCode, I know I made a huge mistake and you will probably never forgive me for that. I just wanted to ask you one very important question, Robin, will you marry me?”
