True Story

I tried again but couldn't find the words today
Not a single lyric graced my lips that said all that I want to say
And sadly I see that three words don't make a melody
Yet still I feel they fit so intrinsically

If I could make the keys say one simple thing,
Sing the simple joys that you do bring
Your voice, you're everything.
If a song could speak, if a bond could hold,
I'd bet on yours and mine and ours alone
If only I could fit "I love you" into this poem

I don't think that there's much that I could rhyme it with
There are no words to describe it with,
Just songs and memories
Yet the cliché of a single kiss, plus a melody and a keyboard riff
Could sum it up, 'cause music is the only way

If I could make the keys say one simple thing,
Sing the simple joys that you do bring
Your voice, you're everything.
If a song could speak, if a bond could hold,
I'd bet on yours and mine and ours alone
If only I could fit "I love you" into this poem...

I don't think that I believe in luck these days since you told me
That you'd been waiting your whole life to find me
It's fate, I say

And I've found a way to make the keys sing
My heartstrings scream your name,
You're everything.
And the song speaks, it says our bond will hold
I can trust all that the music shows
It says I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, and you alone...
I love you
And you alone.

The author's comments:
It's about love, really (isn't it always?) and just writing about love, and *trying* to write about love. Maybe not succeeding, but feeling it, and putting it to words and music as best you can. And maybe, it's about the power that love gives you to express yourself in ways that you haven't had before, or haven't been able to in a while. This was the first song/poem I wrote after a long spell of writer's block, and it's because I fell in love.
