Standing Tall

January 1, 2009
By Anonymous

I'm still standing up
Because I believe in peace.
I'm standing up
Because I hate the war.
I'm still standing tall,
A sign in my hand,
Declaring I believe in
Who and what I am.
I'm still standing high,
My hopes very wide.
Though they try and tear me down,
My message is still heard
That the war needs stopping;
But still meeting no end.
Still I stand tall,
As I walk through the crowd,
Knowing the peace
I carried out
Has delivered the message,
Up and about.
My goal is accomplished,
No matter the crime,
Because I'm still standing up
Holding a sign.

I think this poem is excellent. I enjoyed the part when you said, " Declaring I believe in who and what I am." I think this shows how you will always stand up for what you believe. I loved your word choice and you made no grammer errors which shows your intent to what your writing.

This is a great piece, but I disagree with you. Yes, war in horrible, but wars are sometimes needed. Have you ever heard the phrase," Lying is never right, but sometimes necessary." The same with war. trying to gain peace by talking will work sometimes, but not a majority of them. I'm going to join the National Gaurd and I'm going to fight for my country and help others. Think about how many countries we've saved in the past by going in with action and taking done their corrupt governments. I'd like a response to that.

Good job Emily, I think peace is the answer, war is doing nothing but killing the innocent.

Great poem Emily - I like the repetition of "still", it adds cohesion to the work. Keep on writing!
