Christmas Death
I’ll never forget the fateful night,
When my Grandfather turned for the worst.
We did not know if he was to stay,
or go like a shining light.
The next morning,
the phone rang for my mom.
He had passed away,
and we all went into mourning.
We went on down to Florida State
to be with our family.
There were times of happiness,
but it was sad to hear of his fate.
Looking at pictures all week long,
didn’t help our sorrows.
To see his white hair and mustache,
Realizing he was really gone
His death was lightning,
happened very fast.
Cancer came like a car on the highway,
very fast and frightening
He wasn’t afraid,
he knew it was the end.
The last I saw him was months before,
When my cousin was graved.
Now it has been almost a year
since he had laid to rest.
Now Christmas is not the same,
but we try to keep him near.
