Choices

Glass half empty,
Glass half full,
Become a puppet,
Or have strings to pull,

Flow without meaning,
Down a river so slow,
Or get hold of a paddle,
And conquer as you go,

Be led by others,
Or lead them yourself,
Be a top-notch model,
Or an old book on a shelf,

Don’t think that the choice,
Is someone else’s to choose,
Sound you own voice,
Or be a mat for their shoes,

Glass half empty,
Glass half full,
Choices, choices,
Full up the bowl.

The author's comments:
This piece of poetry was originally assigned as homework for my English class. It was titled as an Advice Poem. I know by what I've seen that a lot of teens are followers, not leaders, and are influenced a lot by their friends. I just wanted to let every teen out there know that choices in your life big or small are always ones that are yours, not anyone else's, to make.

Wow. My friends think I'm crazy beacuse I lead and don't follow, but this poem is really inspiring. Keep writing you're really good.
