A Cold Days Memory
The sun shone a reluctant golden hue- blotted out by the stark, solemn grey sky
The light acted as if it was trying to evade the damp fall grounds.
Everyone around was sniffling, but I couldn’t tell if it was from the weather,
or the mere atmosphere of our gathering.
Encircled around her, we all waited
Almost everyone turned away from the sight, the complete opposite of what we all knew
What we all loved.
I saw Samuel Lanks turn around before he even made it to her; I hated the look in his eyes
Pure Sorrow.
We all felt it, but he showed it, just like everyone else
I wouldn’t, I couldn’t.
I saw so many faces, drenched in the light rain dropping softly from the sky,
The very earth was crying, and with it, its inhabitants, but not me. Not even in this rain
This heartbreaking rain
Drip-drop
I was up.
“I don’t want this to be my last memory of her… I don’t want to see”
But it’s the last time I can, so I must.
Eyes wrenched wide open,
My heart skipped a beat
She was always so odd in her nature; this was a request that would haunt us.
I stared for quite some time into her eyes and for a moment
I found peace.
I could see all of the beauty of life in her eyes; somehow, they retained their luminescence. I caught myself smiling.
Drip-Drop
I looked up to see the contrast all around. I remember all of the faces I saw
Every Tear.
I turned around to see Sam. He stood out the most to me.
He was fighting back tears the whole time, and I saw it
He’d miss her the most out of all of us.
I still wouldn’t cry, not even seeing him, who’d miss her more than her own father. The rain seemed to pick up
Drip Drop
“Don’t Samuel; she would want it that way… You should be composed, how she remembered you”
“How can you say that? She’s not as I remembered her... besides, have you seen yourself?”
“I choose to not show it, it’s not the time or place”
Samuels face erupted into a vast ocean, He’d had it.
“Have you seen yourself Mr. Reys? You are crying, you’ve cried the most of everyone here, even with your solid composure.”
I touched my face to see if it was true, I got the confirmation before I removed my hand. Suddenly, I no longer thought it was raining
Drip
Drop.
