Barbecue
In the kitchen
the smell of my grandma’s creations
were overwhelming
the familiar scent seemed to
lift me off the ground
and pull me towards it
I felt like
I was dreaming
as I climbed onto
the stove
to look inside
and witness the delicacy
“Mac ‘N’ Cheese!”
I yelled
with excitement.
Suddenly my tone shifted
to a squeal of pain
something else was cooking
I looked down
only to see my flat hand
melting on the
heat distorted stove
I tried to pry my hand off
as i jerked up
peeling my
exposed skin
up into the air
RIP!
my hand
shed like a snake
leaving a perfect sculpture of
the incident
on the ring of the stove
to haunt
my existence
I looked up at
my hand
bubbles
forming and popping
on what now was a giant blister
creating craters on the surface
like a moon
my hand glowed red
like a neon stop light
and grew to
five times its original state
my veins surged
like a riptide
losing my
knuckles and fingernails
out to sea.
I glanced at my parents
who were looking at me in shock
My eyes glued to theirs
I blackout
