Ode To Home
Personal, portable, accepting, and safe to the unknown
How can it be that this place is my own?
No judgment or terror bewilders me
Unique as its own, indifferent to many
Distant from reach, awaits my retreat
This is my sanctuary which I call home
This isn’t a room nor a structure
Dry wall or plaster can’t produce this majestic wonder
Vast varieties of styles from Elegant Victorian to stark modern cannot compare
Incompetent: granite countertops and massive glass windows
Unable to reach the potential of this divine feeling
No price tag or disclaimer, rare to many
Guaranteed insurance won’t cost a penny
Will not need renovating or decorating
Custom for me, no need for preparing
HGTV unqualified of creating such a masterpiece, which is awaiting
Society brings us challenges in this new age
Full of grief and very little relief
We perceive that harming others is the cure
This manifest bringing us closer to the obscure
The unanswered riddles in this world bring harm that I sometimes endure
The solution isn’t simple
Traveling to far lands won’t answer this riddle
Can I find a balance of both which lies in the middle
Am I merely surviving or am I thriving?
The answer lies in the hands of the person who is asking
We take abuse to the mind, body, and soul
Each day we become victims of abuse
Wishing for a place to escape this cycle of perpetual suffering
A place that doesn’t consist of discomfort
Traveling to that dwelling where pain no longer floods my mind
Laughing at the joyful memories that I cherish dear
Screams that only I will hear eventually disappear
This space protects me from the bustling world that holds great fear
No violence allowed not even till sundown
Spitting words of antagonism are directed to another realm
In this domain I won’t be overwhelmed
It’s safe and sound
Agreed that it’s strenuous to wait
Yearning for the agony to just finally subside
It all takes patience and time
Without realizing it’s been by my side
Through thick and thin it’s given me pride
Honestly the words of hate that are implied
Can’t reach me, this I decide
Personal, portable, accepting, and safe to the unknown
How can it be that this place is my own?
No judgment or terror bewilders me
Unique as its own, indifferent to many
Distant from reach, awaits my retreat
This is my sanctuary which I call home
