Why Did She Jump?

Everything she did was on the edge.
She sang on the edge, she danced on the edge, she laughed on the edge, she cried on the edge. She lived on the edge.

So why did she jump?

Sometimes it was windy, but sometimes it was still. It rained here and there, but the sun would soak up all the tears. It could be the desert or it could be the artic. Life on the edge wasn’t always comfortable, but, then again, it wasn’t always uncomfortable either.

So why did she jump?

Everyone could see her, but she couldn’t see anyone. There were too many faces staring up at her that she couldn’t recognize a single one. Their faces were soft and their eyes so bright. Their words were simple and transparent as light.

So why did she jump?

She was the definition of elegance, but she could never believe it. On the edge there were no mirrors capable of reflecting her beauty. She was in elegance all alone.

So why did she jump?

They all watched her jump. Some sighed, some even cried, but none were surprised. After all, no one on the edge ever lasted very long. They watched her elegance slip away as she tumbled out of grace. They came up with their stories and lies to explain why she chose to fall out of the sky.

But why did she jump?

It was not because she wanted to hit the ground, as they suspected. It was something more secret. Something only she knew. Whether it was day or night, hot or cold she felt nothing on the edge. She felt nothing at all. So before she danced right of the edge she sang a sweet song:

I
Want
To
Feel
The
Fall.
