RELATIONSHIPS
I love your father” she said
As she sat down next to me on my bed.
I hadn’t heard her say this in a while,
But i sure though couldn’t hide my smile.
She looked around, frowning at the posters on the wall,
She despised them, but heavens know how much I loved them all.
She thinks my love for the band is just a waste of time
But her love for me makes everything between us just fine.
“Before you sister was born, you father was all I had,
But when she came to me, the number multiplied”
A smile broke upon her lips,
As my eyes fell upon her chapped fingertips.
My brother walked by with his walking stick in one hand
His legs are weak by birth, so straight is not like what he can stand
He slipped but my mother caught him halfway through the fall,
Though it was not like he had given her a call.
Reality hit me like a wall of bricks
How did I never ever realise all of this?
Her smile, eyes, lecture and kiss- now i see
Her love for us was always taken for granted by me
She came back to me as I asked
“What all these relationships mean to you?”
She smiled sweetly as she answered
“You all are my lifelines, i care for you”
“But I never gave anything in return to you”
A smile broke on her lips, all motherly and kind
“It’s not important for every poem to rhyme,
As long as it explains its meaning just fine”.
