The Downfall
I lie unassuming, in the bony shadows of the sea,
Recriminations that encourage consternation – from those I’m so clamorous to please.
I am doleful to say, this is densely attractive;
I yearn to be scolded, and see you wounded by my malfeasance.
I want to be ambivalent to my faults, but for you to be deeply scarred by their implications.
It’s superlative, that I might be aware of my chance of success –
Yet I feel I’ve chosen to carve a more cantankerous path,
Into the dark and deep delves of the ocean floor – out of choice.
I know that on the glassy surface of this ocean it is overcrowded.
One is highly praised, and recognised – yet this is injurious.
When afloat you're an easy target.
When bullets do puncture your bursting lungs, you’ll be sucked down into desolate desperation.
Alone.
I choose to dive, to dive down – in an extreme and laconic manner.
I shall then lie, among some of the largest rocks in the ocean,
And look up.
Nobody can shoot me down here.
I’m just an observer.
