The River
People say the river is free,
but yet, the river is much like me
the river is not SO free,
I don’t think the river is who he wants to be
The river runs fast
The river runs slow
sometimes, the river even mopes
because the river is not free
He only goes on the path that’s written
but when he’s rebellious, he goes where forbidden
the river has no animosity; he just wants to prove a point
but he really has to bend at every single joint
His path is written for him
at every slight curve
he just goes with the flow
with every dip, and every swerve
Though the river is not pure,
the river does heal
the river is the place
ancestors come to feel
all its sad sorrows
and its peaceful moans too,
the river is the greatest friend
limited minds can relate to
There’s a time every year
where the river has rage
usually consists of April, June, and May
he lets out all his anger
he may even flow a different way
he has currents in his body
that whirl and whip all day
his body gets tense
his body gets full
and he runs very fast,
with waters very dull
He wants to prove a point
he wants no barriers
he just wants his own way
not to be scarier
he just wants to be happy
so just let him be
The river already knows,
that he is not free.
