Defeated Love

The clouds darkened as the sun retreated.
Happiness and love shrunk back, defeated.

The great thing that we had been, shined
no more, it lay hidden and defeated.

We were once so high, soaring through the air,
never thinking we could be so easily defeated.

Jealousy preyed upon you while you were waiting for me,
it struck swiftly. So quickly you were defeated!

You only saw me with the girl that never was,
you never saw me fighting for you, to never be defeated.

Our happy times were so easily wiped away,
like a tissue devouring a tear defeated.

I disappeared from your mind so quickly,
stunned at how our love was defeated

by a girl that never was, a lover that never loved
and how swiftly those clouds darkened our love defeated.

And now I sit here, lonely and confused,
wondering how such a strength could be defeated.

And you sit there, thinking how such a love
could be, by a girl that never was, defeated.
