Add up the change in your pocket so you can
Buy what you need to
Change the way you feel and
Deposit the past so you won’t find yourself crying
Every day over all of your
Failures and mistakes
Grinding at your mind, body and soul
Heart beating like a spooked horse’s hoof falls
I get it. You
Just can’t deal with life, so you slowly
Kill yourself instead
Looking up at the water-stained ceiling of this
Moldy, rotten building you inhabit
Nothing matters anymore
Other than the next fix, your
Pulse begging, screaming for you to both stop and keep feeding
Quietly, you lay on a filthy mattress
Rail-thin, collapsing in on yourself
Something
Truth is, you could have been someone
Until you poisoned your body, you had hope, A
Vicious will to live and to create and love
Water stains and needles are all you see now
X-person, that’s what you are now
You’re just waiting to die and go up to the
Zenith, up beyond what you can see, if you even can
