Why are boys so amusing, so confusing? Why’s Trevor so nonplusing?
Can the question be answered?
"They'll grow up eventually" I hear everyone say.
But that's not the problem.
Never was it said, "You'll understand them one day.”
Almost everything they do is so bemusing it makes me go sleuthing
Perusing the possibilities, but little comes from my deducing.
Sometimes I see his smile—the one that puts me on a high
Like the first underground trains burning cocaine.
Other times, guys will force me to let out an exasperated sigh
Behaving like children on Mountain Dew caffeine.

And in truth, the guys are in the same boat.
Sometimes, men just can't seem to float the moat
Drowning in girls' conversations
With our thoughts and emotions all jumbled like spaghetti
Making them feel dizzy and a little unsteady

In the end, trying to read the opposite sex
Is like trying to read an alien language, a bizarre mix of hieroglyphs—ask anyone with an ex
After years trying to decipher, there may be some patterns.
We searched all we could.
We listened to each other just like we thought we should.
But how much of what is said is really understood?
As I sit and muse, I wonder and come to say:
“Maybe that's the beauty of it, why each is so intrigued by the other.”
I won’t repeat the "Can't live with 'em" line- it's too cliche
Though guys and girls can't always understand, we need each other anyway.

The author's comments:
I wrote this slam poem for my Literature class, the topic came to me because I had been going through a lot of confusion-hence the title-in between me and my guy friends, both with the ones I was interested in and the ones that I didn't even realize were interested in me. Honestly, I believe it to be a good thing that men and women think differently because they complete each other, but it doesn't make relating to each other less frustrating. This poem was my outlet to rant about all of the miscommunication that often goes on between people of the opposite sex, and to question why it has to be so confusing to such a great extent.
