Water, earth, fire, and air,
The four elements of our world,
Without them, we could not bear,
Because they all make one big Earth.

Water is large and flowing,
It spreads its life across the land,
And keeps all creatures growing,
Yet we pollute and do not care.

Earth is strength and solid ground,
It holds you up when you may fall,
And lifts everyone around,
Yet we destroy it for ourselves.

Fire– wild and dangerous,
It can’t be quenched once it’s started,
And it’s still quite strange to us,
Yet we use it to burn things up.

Air is light and very free,
It makes weather and our own breath,
In the lungs of you and me,
Yet we fill it with harmful filth.

Do not wait and always sit,
Earth is dying because of us!
Clean it for your benefit,
And the elements will be one.

The author's comments:
I was inspired out of the blue to write my poem. The other day, I was looking out my window and thought about all the bad things we're doing to harm the Earth. I wanted to make the four elements seem powerful and important, but also tone them down so the reader can see why we really need them to function. We totally destroy the world and don't seem to care, so I wanted my poem to have real meaning to people in the sense of our own toll on nature and the four elements.
