The Desert
Awaking to the blinding light,
Your heart skips a beat.
Laying in a desert,
Your body admits defeat.
Hanging like a light bulb,
The sun just stares,
Waiting to laugh again
At your despair.
Clutched to your shoulders,
The sand presses you down,
Leaving you laying alone
With no one around.
With the wind and the dust,
It makes you feel blind.
Your eyes become flooded,
Hoping that the world was kind.
Burning with pain,
The heat pervades your skin.
As if claiming its land,
It attacks from within.
Beneath all of the sadness,
A flame is ignited.
You strangle your tears
Almost delighted.
The world around you collapses,
Replaced by a track.
You open your eyes and run
Not looking back.
