We walked through the winter and watched everything die,
Slowly losing color, offering up their life.
And somehow we decided following suit would be right,
So, we let go of each other, and gave up on the fight.

I watched you fade away, longing for the sun,
and I wanted to hold your hand again, and save you from coming undone.
But all the while I was withering too, whishing I could run,
just to save the life you had and see you find someone.

All through the season the cold did it's work, and chilled us to the bone.
You and I drifted farther apart, and tried to find our way home.
And soon we realized time elapsed could fix feeling alone.
But by this time it was far too late, all the while we should've known.

Soon the snow melted and things became green, but we were left in the dust.
The sun used its hand to remove the ice, and our hearts were filled with lust.
All summer long we though of one another, but found new summer loves.
Trying once again to feel what we felt when you and I were us.

Many years later I still think of you while I sit by the window at night.
Looking out across the city and marveling at its light.
Watching all the people pass by with tired lifeless eyes,
and knowing that the winter had struck again and ruined another life.
