America I've given you all and now I'm nothing-Allen Ginsberg

We are the greatest generation
Mom and Dad I’m sorry
I just don’t like money
Suburbia I’m sorry
I love mowing the lawn
High School I’m sorry
I can’t stand your hypocrisies
Mom and Dad I’m not sorry
I want to be a writer
Suburbia I’m not sorry
I hate your false sense of community
High School I’m not sorry
I don’t want to walk across the stage
Mom I’m sorry
Erica’s in Tampa and I can’t see her coming home again
Dad I’m sorry
I like soccer as much as baseball
I know its evil
Gam I’m sorry
I don’t have a poor mans chance at being a writer
Erica I’m sorry
I left 6 years too early
Suburbia I’m sorry I don’t see the diversity in our “Community”
Mom and Dad I’m sorry
I don’t agree with your right wing values
Mom and Dad
I support same-sex marriage
I’m not sorry
America
I don’t give a damn about failure
Failure’s what makes me great
High school I can’t say you’ve prepared me for my
Poor
Lonely
Sad
Future
But then again
We are the greatest generation

The author's comments:
The inspiration for this writing came to me when I was sitting in one of my classes and I started to wonder about my future and what I wanted to do vs what my parents had in mind for me. Then I started to think about the flaws in the systems I take part in on a daily basis. What I hope people get out of this is to be their own person and I hope they question the institutions around them.
