Cancer
When doctors told you, we were scared. She took it
In secretly, all those months and then
Told all her children.
Her children were terrified. She said it wasn't bad.
They were a little relieved, how you feel when you finish a study guide,
But you still have to study it.
They were scared,
To think of her being away,
Her life taken away,
Their daily family dinners,
Missing her presence.
Would the doctors give her treatment or
Make her feel comfortable if she is in pain?
Would they make her feel loved in the
Environment of a hospital?
She has taught them how to smile through
Their tears, and to cry through
Their smiles.
Now, I see cancer patients in the world,
Their shiny heads, their delicate bodies surviving off an
Oxygen tank and only moving by the assistance of a wheelchair, their pale
Skin, and their family always wearing the common sad smile.
I feel blessed that someone has found the cure to the skin cancer my
Mom had, and she survived the illness and did not have to deal with the
Heart wrenching symptoms.
