When the Gods Took Summer Away

When the gods took summer away
They took the sunshine too
But not just the kind that rises in the sky
But the one in my eyes of blue

When the gods took summer away
The warm breezes ceased to blow
Replaced with bitter, cold, chill, breaths
That whispered to me in the snow

When the gods took summer away
The water turned to ice
It did not sparkle, ebb, and flow
But stayed stagnant, like my life

So when the gods took summer away
I caught more than snowflakes on my tongue
I danced in razor-sliced blizzard storms
And was enticed by those among

But when the gods took summer away
I yearned for red on white
Like petals that fall on frozen ground
And wither out of sight

Because when the gods took summer away
I collapsed into the mud
And painted the storm with my razor knife
I signed my name in blood
