Ode to Dolly
Let’s all raise our scotch, boys, to our darling Dolly
That sweet painted pearly-skinned Moll
Who twirled in red lights
Landed cartwheels in tights
And keeping her smile through all!
Do you write to your mother, Miss Dolly, my Dolly?
Tell tales to some moon-bellied sister
Of your soft servile heeding,
Smile never receding,
To the call of some lecherous mister?
Oh! Where have you gone, Dolores, my Dolly?
Were you stabbed in some bacchanal brawl?
In the haze of your dolor
Did some slick high-roller
Sweep you off in his torn oily trawl?
I’m dying, I’m crying, my sweet Dolly dear
This neon world flickers when you are not here.
On gull wings you've flown round the next highway bend
Smelling of motel soap and a heart you can’t mend.
