"Sometimes in life, there are things we wish we could go back and change. Wrongs we wish we could right, mistakes we wish we could fix, but in real life, there are no do-overs. So then way are we left with? We're left with regrets." - Anna Akanna

People always ask "how has violence affected me?"
I say "give me a moment and I will tell thee."
I go to school almost every single day.
I get out of the car and her the bullies say,
"Hey look its that kid!" They point to the one all alone.
He sits there everyday, playing games on his phone.
The group walks up to him and one says "Hey shortie, whats up?"
The boy, with a mumble, mutters "Not much."
The bullies stay and make fun of the boy.
Playing with his feelings as if they were a toy.
They walk away laughing, all happy with glee.
I stand there, feeling bad for the boy, who is as sad as can be.

"What would make anyone want to bully someone?" You say.
Maybe they do it just to ruin your day.
They choose someone who they thing will give a reaction.
Lining up one by one for this emotional attraction.
With bullying its always "The more the merrier."
But for the victim its always "The more the scarier."
They will look for the kid who appears to be shy.
So kind in their heart, they couldn't hurt a fly.
They pick on the one who they would call "ugly"
unleashing their insults and jokes ever so smugly.
The victim, not fighting back, doing nothing at all
just stands there and takes it wanting to bawl.

However, it doesn't have to be this way.
All it takes is one person to stand up and make the victims day!
As a matter of fact that person could be me.
I or you could make a difference you see?
I could stand up to the bully and end this verbal fight.
Just that alone could fulfill the victims day full of delight.
I don't need to help alone I can get an assistant!
They can help with the problem so its no longer nonexistent!
Don't you get it? Theres so much we can do!
We can work to stop this, yes me and you.
So just do the right thing,
and observe all the good some simple words can bring.

This was a poem I wrote for "Do the Write Thing", an effort to get kids to write some form of essay, poetry etc. in order to raise awareness about bullying. The 3 requirements were to address; How has bullying effected me?, Why do people bully?, and What can we do to stop bullying? I hope people can read this and think "Wow I really can do something about bullying."
