The Curse of Mankind

February 24, 2014

Stuck in a world of wrath
Innocence born in the Christian bath
Avoiding the seven sins
But soon the transition begins

Failing
Life as an innocent, slowly sailing
You begin to believe and conceive
The idea of money as life’s only need

Fading light
The elements of greed obstructing sight
The darkness begins to bloom
Seeing only personal treasures in this world of doom

You see the world through diamond eyes
Mass betrayal
Loved ones begin disappear, no goodbyes
Ebenezer Scrooge, is the new portrayal

The light cannot breakthrough
Seeing the world through a pirates view
The sun has lost its moon
Loved ones lost to this typhoon

Alone and lost
Skin cold, layered with frost
All this wealth, with no one to show
Sick and tired with nowhere to go

Corruption of the soul
The greed has taken its toll
Having everything
But something is missing

Feeling like worthless gold
Can’t break out
From the devils hold
The struggle is a never ending bout

Stuck in the back is the devil’s claw
Greed was the tragic flaw
It had taken over the mind
It is the curse of mankind…

I was inspired to write this poem after reading stories and watching movies about people who's lives were destroyed by greed. I personally hope that people will learn to control their urges when it comes to life because although you may gain a certain feeling from what it is you are doing whether it is earning a lot of money or a certain high you may get from a drug, just know that it may cost you more in the long run and it may be better to avoid the "darkness" this world has to offer because you will come to regret it one day.
