Where I'm From
I am from Febreeze and Dad's cologne.
I am from buildings touching the sky.
I am from bright city lights at night.
Such a pretty occurrence that it's hard not to stay up all night and stare at them forever.
I am from those days in the park,
where "dot dot dot I got my cootie shot" protected you from cooties.
I am from dirt turned to mud on a rainy day,
used as the main ingredient in my mud pies.
I am from the "Minnie New York".
Where Marta buses and trains are the main transportation.
Where preachers preached on every square and the homeless begged for change.
Nevertheless, my favorite place to go on a sunny day.
I am from Hip Hop and R&B
Flowing through my ears from the old boom box my mom loves so much.
I am from great books...ones that I could just sit there and read forever.
I am from "We're going to Grandma's house!"
From homemade popsicles,
Watching Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Disney Channel all day
and being forced to watch football all evening
On my walls, in albums, in scrapbooks, shoved in drawers are pictures
I am from those pictures...those snapped moments in my life.
