Masks
Halloween, a holiday with many masks,
but why is it fun is what I must ask..
Could it be the promise of sweets?
Hersheys, Rolos, peanut butter cups,
all of those very delicious treats,
Halloween sure has its ups.
A fairy here and a ninja there,
all of them caught up in the night,
still when asked for candy they don’t share,
but if you're nice they just might.
Adults with full candy bowls wait,
listening for knocks on their door,
Its like they’re luring fish with their bait,
and sometimes kids come back for more.
At times Halloween can get weird,
because it all starts with the masks,
Mummies, werewolves, and trolls with beards,
put there to scare you as their only task.
Now that I check, its not fair,
six year olds stroll the streets being brave,
yet would I leave my house? I wouldnt dare,
those monsters first must crawl back in their cave.
I tell myself that they aren't real,
but that zombie covered in bugs,
looks like he’s ready for his next meal,
I really need some comforting hugs.
