The Girl Who Was a Book
She was a book
who sat on a shelf located
in the far corner of the room.
Unopened and in perfect condition, she was
a book whose pages remained unread, another
story untold.
If students were asked to select
something to read,
she was the book who stayed at home
while the others went out to play, leaving
her lying on her side,
like a tree that fell in a passing storm.
She was a book
who collected dust as the days slowly
went by.
