Ransacked
The candles were lit as we sat down to eat
Our table was dressed to each end
Roast mutton and chicken
With sauce that was thickened
And other foods I’d recommend
That was a minute before
He would burst through the door
Clad in leather boots wrapped to the thigh
With a smirk and a grin
A short beard on his chin
And a band of tough rogues by his side
“Supper’s over” he shouted
Then we were surrounded
By the rowdiest lot ever known
And we watched helplessly
As the young men decreed
That our house would be robbed to the bone
They proceeded to take everything in the room
All our furniture, coins, clothes and riches
Then, pointing at the food,
They engulfed and consumed
And in their eyes they looked bewitched
I know that he takes things to give to the poor
He means well with his gestures, it’s true
But barging into a place and make us look disgraced
I would just ask politely, wouldn’t you?
