The Night Before My Birthday
It was the night before my birthday,
 And all through the house.
 Not a creature was stirring,
 Not even a louse.

 The presents were hid,
And they were hidden with care.
In hope that I wouldn’t find them,
And that the wrapping wouldn’t tear.

I laid awake in my bed,
 Counting the seconds and hours.
 Dreaming of tomorrow,
 Instead of princes in towers.

What would my parents get me?
 A bike or a horse?
 A book or a videogame,
 Or some candy of course!

They could get me a pen,
 A puppy or a cat.
They could get me a movie,
 Or a weird, purple hat.

 Time flew by faster,
 And faster it went.
 I soon fell asleep,
 And woke up feeling content.

 I screamed, “It’s my birthday!”
And ran out from my room.
 But I couldn’t find anyone,
Was my birthday destined for doom?

 Where did everybody go?
 Finding them seemed so hard.
Then I looked out the window,
 And into the yard.

 There stood my family,
 Some strangers and friends!
I could make a whole list of people,
 It just never ends!

All the people stared at me,
 I wanted to cry!
 Still, nobody said a word,
 I thought I might die!

A box was placed in front of me,
I didn’t know what to do.
 So, I opened it up,
Hey, it’s just what I wanted, too!

 Today isn’t over,
 But, I’m willing to bet.
That today will be my favorite birthday,
It’s been the best one yet!
