Forever Young

Hopping up the wooden steps of my colorful neighborhood,
I see my friends in matching skirts,
Smiles plastered on every ones faces,
As if we would be young forever,
I see the crack on the staircase,
The same staircases that I run, sing, and dance on,
I see trees swaying in the wind holding secrets and scarred with initials of previous lovers.

The sun is smiling down at us,
Its light filling our hearts with warmth and joy,
Its bright beaming rays saturating our skins,
The glistening star making everyday a day to smile.

I hear the little kids shrieking, playing tag, and playing with balloons, and they are then releasing them free into the air,
I hear laughter of all the teenagers as they giggle about the previous day,
I eavesdrop on the conversations of adults complaining about life,
I recall the sound of the jump rope slap the ground as my friends and I play double dutch.

I look up at the clear, blue sky,
I ask myself, "Will life always be like this?,
Do we really want to be forever young?",
Lost in my thoughts i catch a glimpse of what adulthood would be like,
It was full of struggles, depression, and complaining.

As i think about the future that is unfolding before my eyes, I start to worry
I start to realize that at one point everything changes,
Life will no longer be carefree and bright,
I suddenly start to feel melancholy- thankful for what I have now, but scared about what I might loose,
Now I reflect back and find- life is good as it is now, there is no point to waste your life trying to change it.

Don't waste time worrying about the future, live in the moment.

Forever captured in the painting,
Forever captured in the painting,
Forever captured in the painting.
