A secret tear
I’m very careful about it
I stand guard and refuse
Not this time,
This time I will resist
Hold it back as far as I can
I won’t allow it
I’m stronger than it
It won’t win this time
I’m determined,
But that’s not enough,
I feel it riding along my lower lid
Teasing me,
It takes it precious time before sliding down my left cheek
It makes an S over and over again
Until it creeps below my chin
Dangling,
Plotting its final destination
Without fail it releases itself
Landing atop my foot
Sinking into my skin
Traveling back up the path to where it hides,
Awaiting its chance
To once again prove its dominance
