Surrendering
Small and innocent
not so long ago
But now she’s on fire
and oh,
so ready to go.
They told her it was an accident-
there was nothing she could do,
the car just would not stop-
not even for me or you.
She hid in the corners-
invisible at school,
But she
of course
was no fool.
She made it seem like she was okay-
that she would move on
by the end of the day.
But still she carried
this heavy guilt,
that if it was her
they would still be built.
She could no longer bear it-
blinded by what she could not see,
so she did the unthinkable
so she could be free.
The pain was interminable-
her heart drifting away,
no longer
wishing to stay.
She only did
what she had to do-
to see them smile,
of course, she knew.
But why did they hesitate
to embrace her once again,
Why did they avoid her
when all she wanted was them?
She tried to be calm
But she did not understand-
Why no one would look at her
or even hold her hand.
They say she did something wrong,
she cheated and it’s not fair-
She had a choice,
and she chose wrong,
absolutely wrong they swear.
