Changes
Your life changes
in the blink of an eye.
Things that make you cold-hearted;
curl up and kiss the world good-bye.
She won’t cry
yet tears soak her pillow.
She can’t leave
yet the escape is under the willow.
She still can see the gun
with the barrel in her face;
flashbacks every day
for the gunshot she’ll brace.
You don’t know her from Adam.
Smart and head strong,
won’t back up, can’t back down;
still in the right never wrong.
Put on a pretty face.
She calls it beautifully broken.
No one can see past it.
Words built up, unspoken.
You still don’t get it.
Y’all still can’t see.
Open your eyes.
That girl yeah, that’s me.
