The Game
The dust in her hand was continuously making my skin less slick.
Then, she wound up, and let me loose.
She flung me through the air and with a loud “Smack”, the guy made the call.
It was very close to being off, but she didn’t give up on me.
The next two times, she was right where she needed to be.
She looked around, hearing all of the loud noises and seeing the happy faces.
Then she thought to herself, that she would never give up.
Then, the next time she held me, everything was perfect.
The windup, the throw, and then I landed;
In the place that I considered my safe haven; the catcher’s glove
Then, the guy said the words that she remembered her whole life.
She won.
She went from holding a yellow ball,
To wearing a red, white and blue lanyard, with a big chunk of gold around her neck.
Years of sacrificing and practice, made her a champion.
