A word that means so much,
Almost like the faintest touch,
Upon many students’ hearts,
Bringing together multiple parts,
Of the memories of high school.

An event that shows pride,
That also takes you on a ride,
A ride to endless joy,
Almost like getting a new toy,
As a little child.

A journey that took 18 years,
Years full of cheers,
With many silly events,
But the enormous contents,
Remembered only by this special word.

A time with music and colorful clothes,
A time where everyone knows,
The beauty of this word,
Because of the laughter heard,
Everywhere they go.

So what is this word?
That brings so much joy,
That brings colorful dances,
That holds 18 years with it?

It’s the special week,
A special week of homecoming.
And one you should never forget is that...
“Poetry is a sort of homecoming.”

The author's comments:
When I first wrote this poem, we had just finished homecoming week in school and it was the first one I ever experienced. It gave me an inspiration to write this poem. Just the experience of it, being in high school, grown up with such memories. I wanted a souvenir to remember it with. And I'm sure that this poem will do just that.
