My poems
The Heisman Winner
Ernie Davis a star football player
In high school as well as college
Number 44, was his #
The star running back
Who played for Syracuse
A gentle beast
The first African American heisman winner
Drafted by the Cleveland Browns
By didn’t play a down
Because of Leukemia
Life is unexpected
Life is ice skating with no ice
Life can cause agony
Ernie Davis left a legacy
Swimming
The first time I went swimming
I was 3 years old
I was as confident as a lion
I saw the pool
That looked as blue as the sky
Filled with enjoyment
I jumped into the Rochester pool
All I saw was blue water
I couldn’t breathe, the water was suffocating me
And before I knew it
I was drowning my eyes shut
Blackness, All I saw was blackness
I opened my eyes realizing
I was lying on the cement
The first time I went swimming
Faith, love, Hope
In time hard work will pay off
In time patience will be worth it
Faith brings
Love brings
Hope brings
My family
To the church
Faith is what gets me through the rough
Faith isn’t believing in what you see but what you hope.
If I follow all of this I will reach my dreams
