I am from the stories of Adam and Eve
And the constant singing of “Yes Jesus Loves Me”

I am from the blessings before dinner and
The early mornings of Sunday rays that beam from the sun.

I’m from the small echoes and constant chatters of country accents.
I am from a place where everyone knows everyone.

I am from the sweet smells of early cornbread on Thanksgiving.
I’m from the scented aroma that gusts through the bedrooms
Of buttery pancakes hot and fresh off the oven.

I’m from the neighborhood filled with kids.
I grew up eating popsicles from made from the neighborhood store.

I am melting from my nana’s soft pancakes.
My tongue quivers from the delicious taste of her cheesy macaroni
And my body flows with the blood of Mrs. Catherine’s candy apples.

I’m from my mother, whose attitude bursts from my veins.
I am filled with loud laughter, and constant talking
That mimics my loving grandmother
I’m from the slim body and light bright skin
That sweetly resembles my paternal mother.

I am from the toys in my toy box
Every afternoon, that were scattered amongst the floor.
I am from the strong smell of gasoline burning from the four-wheelers outside.
I am from the spinning and turning of bicycles that race down the biggest hill.

I am from the sounds of a dribbling basketball,
To the first backflip and cart wheel in the backyard.
I am from the squeaks of old swings
I come from the smell of freshly planted daffodils and dandelions.

I am from the early morning sounds of school bus horns
And the fresh smells of biscuits from Biscuit Ville before class.
And the kisses from grandma before getting out the car.

I am from the hugs from mommy everyday
I am from the loud arguing and constant cries of being spoiled.
I am from a thick blood line of family that is closely knitted.

I am from the day of August 5th which made me a big sister.
I am from the day of April 3rd
When my mother was no longer just my mother
But she was now someone’s other half.

I am from the month of early August and new Carolina land.
I am from the first day of middle school on August 25th
I am from the adjustment of new friends and a new place.

I am from the wakening’s of baby cries
I am from the loud screams and conversations on the afternoon school bus.
I am from the laughter of friends
And the joy of drama class every afternoon.

I am from the movement of schools and the new makings of friends.
I am from a small school which somewhat resembles a bank
I am from the sounds of long bells and the chairs which gather and form a circle.

I am from the step to high school and a new step to maturity.
I am from a place where I don’t plan on staying long.
I am from a middle class family and I have high class hopes.
I am from the echoing sounds of car horns and the downtown lights.

I am from the corny jokes from my dad
And the rolling and stomping of my eyes up the stairs
I am from the dinner ready after school each day
I am from the gatherings of family members every celebration.
To the sad goodbyes when it’s time for them to depart.

I want to soon be from a place that never sleeps
I want to be from a land where all dreams are possible,
And every wish comes true.
Because I am from a family that believes anything is possible
If you try your best and give your all.
