Just a letter,
A letter that holds the key
That unlocks the impenetrable iron latch
Of teenage angst and worry
The dopamine dams
Implode inside my neurons
Flooding my bloodstream,
With a quick swell of elation
And for one sweet moment,
My universe is in full agreement
My future is illuminated
By the bright light of hope and confidence.
A letter,
With the power to penetrate
The mysterious high school soul.

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece in the middle of my sophomore year of high school, when I was very stressed and overwhelmed. At that point in a high schooler's life, good grades are so very important, and for me, straight A's are always something I've worked for, but never achieved, and in writing this poem, I expressed my feelings on what I wanted most at that moment in time: to feel successful.
