December
It was raining when I met you,
But the drops had turned snow,
The clouds were taking over,
And the sun was dipping low.
When you turned, you looked right past me,
To the redhead at my right,
I'll admit that she was gorgeous
In the sparse December light.
As the minutes and the snowflakes
Marked the quickly passing hour,
The winter threw the sun away,
The mild breeze grew sour.
It was the cold that got to me
And struck up something new,
And before I weighed my options,
I was walking up to you.
My bold maneuver paid me well,
For as the night pressed on,
We got lost in conversation
And we lingered there till dawn.
The winter days were merciless,
Our meetings made them warm,
From the comfort of your sofa,
We weathered roaring storms.
The months enforced our happiness,
Like armies to their flag,
Until December came again,
And days began to drag.
It was raining when I lost you,
But the drops had turned to snow,
The clouds were taking over,
And the sun was dipping low.
