Phoenix Rising

The phoenix rises
Its head held high
It holds its wings
with authority
It looks down
and with startling surprise
sees tongues of flame
licking up its sides
The fire burns
scalding and strong
the phoenix accepts its fate
Engulfed in a blazing
brilliant fire
it disappears
with no trace
The end marks a new
beginning
promising and bright
as a fire;
And there, peeping out
from the charred ground
is new form of life
a young, fledgling phoenix,
ready to face life’s strife
