There are monsters inside us. There are monsters all around.
The monsters which divide us; otherwise, we’d be living sound.
They hide but not beneath your bed intending to maim you; however instead,
They attack the unsuspecting victims when they have a chance to get in their head.

We’re all a little crazy, if not we’re all insane.
It’s the monsters, the monsters I tell you! They’re gnawing at our brain!
They feed on fear and love and hate, there’s no anesthetic strong enough to sedate
The pain they’re causing in us all, humanity dwindling to the state of the Neanderthal

There are monsters inside us. There are monsters all around.
If you listen closely, you may just hear the blood-curdling sound
Of jagged teeth and pointed claws, slashing their way through wired jaws
The jaws of humanity, the jaws of hell
Now there are no boundaries. What will become of us? Well…

We do as we’ve been doing and give in to all this torture
Or fight to the death of us, until we achieve good order
If we choose to fight, we won’t stand a chance
Until it’s unanimous and we all take the stance

There are monsters inside us. There are monsters all around.
They push us onto spikes, and lay on feather down
They treat themselves as kings and queens as royalty, celebrities
To them we are dust in the wind, garbage bins, carcinogens
You are not original; you are the product of the atrocity
Committed with a smile on the face of the monstrosity
I’m sure we all feel this way; a great sense of animosity
But no one wants to speak out, filling me with dynamic curiosity

The author's comments:
I was inspired to write this piece after thinking about what I see being glorified by society and mainstream media today. I see so many people falling under the spell of "what's cool" and many other people complain about it, but not many of us decide to publicly speak our opinions. I decided to bring it upon myself to speak the minds of many who feel that we should fight our demons and expand ourselves as people. I hope that others will read my poem and it will get them thinking about their future and the future of us all if simple-mindedness and foolishness is continued to be produced and glorified.
