A Dream Twofold
I had a dream of haze and fire.
The sparks would flay and cut and bruise
As pleasure steamed above the pyre
And I would feel unnerved and used.
The blaze would burn beyond the bone
While whispers stabbing through my ears
Speared my heart with pleasing moans
And drowned my brain in pulsing fears.
The dream would shift from heat to ice
As she who held my whims would change:
The figure, masculine and nice,
Would sooth me through the rich and strange.
Embraces cold did heal my wounds
That she inflicted in grim joy.
The soothing chill set us in swoons
Bereft of sappy, sloppy cloy.
The dream did fade and I awoke.
The cold a sign of empty bed;
The light a fire of cancer smoke,
As pulses captivate my head.
I had a dream of haze and fire,
Followed by one of ice and care
The waking veil, a mirror dire,
Is what I am burdened to wear.
