Up upon Cambridge hill, stood a castle – sad and still.

The story’s known near and far

In every travelers repertoire.

The day the kingdom fell to doom,

The tale told to tragic tune.
Before vices, sins, and hate
Stood a kingdom, grand and great.
The princess beautiful, honest and true
Shone brightly as the night-time moon.
She felt not threatened by other towns, she ruled justly and held the crown.
A prince came in from lands afar
To give her love and all his heart.
She felt secure, safe and sound
All her soldiers backed right down.
Not long after came in jealousy,
A foreign song by way of sea.
The kingdoms men quarreled in dysfunction
Seeking only out destruction.
The kingdom fell to misery
A most weary sight to see.
The prince ran off very far,
Taking with him the princess’ heart.
She grew bitter – her kingdom blue.
The village died, all hearts untrue.
The princess wept and killed the flowers
And never saw next year’s showers.
Jealousy claims victory still,
Up upon Cambridge hill.
