Mockingbirds
20 mockingbirds baked in a pie,
20 mockingbirds have died.
Their lives ended by a king ill,
who with curiosity was filled.
He often experimented on things forbidden,
in his prison which was so well hidden.
19 innocent, pure birds,
untimely ripped from their herd.
They were still singing in the pie,
as the top crust was applied.
The King was filled with joy,
he danced around the oven like a little boy.
He opened the oven with delight,
but was greeted to a horrid sight.
Mockingbirds flew out of the pie,
but now only nine.
They picked out the King’s starry eyes,
and he let out a pitch so high.
His ears began to ooze out blood,
and his eyes also created an exponential flood.
The mockingbirds dropped like flies,
and one by one slowly died.
The King as well fell in the dark abyss,
deeper and deeper he went into a counterfeit bliss.
The villagers had gathered in celebration,
in joy of their new found liberation.
Only few remembered and sighed,
at the pitiful 20 mockingbirds that died.
