Give and Take
Back when I was young and small
When it was just you and me
Naive thoughts; I had it all
There was nothing I couldn’t be
You’d clap when I sang and played you my song
always asked to hear more and more
You gave me confidence that made me think I belonged
Praises like golden star stickers stuck to my score
As we grow up, we begin to meet new faces
They also had parents telling them they were best
Questioning whether my talent will conquer the races
Who was I to think that I was better than the rest?
Like this princess in her tower
I was blissfully unaware of everything around
Realizing that in this final hour
sometimes you are not the best in town
So the time will still fly and I’ll continue to grow
and I no longer think that my talent’s devine
With age comes wisdom, which shrinks the ego
Along with my barbie dolls, my confidence was left behind
Maybe sometimes talent isn’t always done to be compared
The success lies between the happiness you create
You won’t always be the best, but don’t be scared
Because something you love shouldn’t be left for others to dictate.
