Spoken Word
Starting at a young age your minds trapped in a cage
Afraid to be no less than a human barbie
With the bottle blonds you start to feel conned
Wanting the porcelain face, tight waist and everything kept in place
But songs send miscalculations to the brain to sway your thoughts
To flaunt the Bootylicious butt, but hide the goodies
Make sure your milkshakes bring the boys to the yard
But take out the headphones for a sec to check the tv;
America’s Next Top Model, where they all wanna be on top
But what's really on top when the criticism doesn’t stop?
They walk up and down the runway doing work
But in the end, those 5’11 models can’t even twerk
Flip a magazine to be faced with a Victoria Secret model
Stomachs so tight you can bounce a coin off of it
Trying yet failing to fight the urge to starve for the brazilian babe figure
You see, we always seemed to be judged by the pigment of our skin
Always wondering what we would look like if we were thin
Our concentration based off of starvation to make us feel better
We’re plagued by the thoughts of insecurity fed to us by the media
Cosmetic company coaxing us to believe that “Maybe she’s born with it, or Maybe its just Maybelline”
Because in order to be a Covergirl one must cover her pasty complexion or paint on pretty lips
To use airbrush in pictures not to just cover up that pimple but to conceal one's identity.
Lip injection or the nip tuck is struck as a good idea
So I guess when you're happy and you know it, you’ll make your face will surely show it
If you look at some stars, you’ll see the happy face but make no mistake
Marilyn Monroe, the sassy classy American actress who soon became America’s tragedy
Because the voluptuous actress couldn’t take the pressure to be perfect so she popped the pills
So does that give us the assumption that you can be stressed depressed, but it’s okay cause you're well dressed.
Because in the end we’re not worried about the smarts we want to make a mark in our appearance to make a front for the people.
Just to be pretty, skinny or just primed enough to make them happy.
