Ode to Breakfast
Good morning
It is nice to see you
I lie
I pour you out
You’re so boring
You stare with that blank
Face
Beckoning me to eat
Your light brown flakes
As melancholy as a
Dark rainy day
I bring out your acquaintance
The milk
It shares the same blank stare
And I think to myself
Why would anyone
Ever eat you
You're the same
Every morning I look at you
You're the same
But this morning you’re different
Not the usual
Dispirited look
I tell myself you have
Changed
But when I bite
You’re the
same.
