Adam and Eve
One false bite,
A tempting fate.
A wondrous chance,
From which they ate.
If her teeth did not strike
the red, sumptuous skin,
If the sweet, tangy juice
Did not drool down her chin
If her lover did not share
The exhilarating taste
If they had left the forbidden
In the shadows to waste,
Would the world be innocent today?
Can bombs and bullies
Murder and rape
Sadness and suicide,
And dark twisted shapes
Be left upon a fruit?
If only…
Were I in her place,
Faced with the bite,
If I’d the opportunity
To make things right.
Would I?
Or would I fall,
Like the dark angels from the sky,
Descending deeper,
Within the mellifluous lie.
One false bite,
One tempting fate.
A wondrous chance.
There, they ate.
