Jabbing and stabbing, piercing skin once again
Sunrise to sunset, every day filled with sin
Blood beads at each prick, sweat weeps from her pores
Deeper and deeper the dagger explores
Gouging its scars across body and soul
Though during repose, her pain seems to dull
She tosses and turns all through the night
Savoring darkness and dreading morn’s light
Consumed with these secrets too fearful to share
In utter despair, she is gravely aware
Of the woe to endure when tomorrow begins:
Jabbing and stabbing, piercing skin once again

The author's comments:
Written in a moment of despair, this poem is dedicated to all those braving their own internal battles, be they fought against injury, loss, depression, or disease. Never forget that without the pain and suffering we endure, both mentally and physically, we could not know joy.
