“Ode to Early Spring Days”

Finally, the sun is out!
The day just got a whole lot brighter.
The flowers bloom from little sprouts;
the sun illuminates their color.
Spring is growing, hour by hour.
The world comes to life again;
hope and freedom come with every flower
and lie on every hill and in every glen.

In the land of my heart,
I see the sun shine in the bright blue sky.
My mission: to make an impact. I can’t wait to start,
so confident in who I’ve grown to be inside.
Like the sun, I too will shine.
I’ve got it all together.
My fight has got me to this point in time
where I can do something to make the world better.

Looks can deceive.
By shining rays, the flowers are embossed,
yet cold chilly blasts is what they receive,
reminding them of the winter frost.
Under the dirt, they were warm, secure.
What are they doing here out from the safe ground?
They’re unsure how long they can endure
this biting breeze before, for good, they’re down.

Meanwhile, I set out with raised chin
and a sure, jubilant stride,
but all too quickly the wind blows in.
Bitter memories crush my pride.
The times I refused, gave into lies,
and ran from the chance to help someone
reveal the difficulty and my inability, blinding my eyes
The dark and cold make me wish I was back home.

And yet, I see the flowers bending like the trees,
who are much stronger and older than these.
Still, the soil that anchors them and supports their stem
also absorbs the sun to warm them.
When I feel insufficient and disabled inside,
and the icy gusts have frozen the tears I’ve cried
You remind me You are all that I need
and by your power I can be free
and we can have the victory.
